I just bought a 98 civic dx and was looking to do some simple mods, thinking of an intake first. I think i want to go with ram air after reading all the cons of locating the filter beneath the car. It seems like the performance enhancement is negligable from an intake, so really i just want a little noise.
If there is a cheap or other way to go about it i'd love to know. Also it would hopefully be a semi-simple mod because i dont have much experience. Money is tight (cant afford $100+ for AEM etc.) so if anyone has any suggestions???? Thanks!

Re: What intake should i buy for 98 civic???
All you really need for a short ram intake is 1.Intake piping, and 2. A filter.
You can go to AutoZone, Pep Boys, etc. and buy all that stuff for pretty cheap, just make sure you get the right adaptors and use some clear silicone sealant (to make it airtight). On the DX, hook up the new pipe to the stock air box (where the regular filter goes) and remove the stock intake tube and resonater box (be sure to remove the stock components carefully, as you might want to re-install them in the future). Seal the adaptors with silicone all around. Be sure to measure out everything first before you buy, so you only have to do the minimum of cutting on the pipe. Mess around with the intake until you're happy with it, run the engine (to check for air leaks), then off you go. |
