Attempting to fiberglass a hood

I was fiberglassing the fairings that are cracked on my bike when it was laid down and waiting on it to dry I got bored and decided to see if I could make a fiberglass cowl induction hood. I've started working on it and hope to have this done in the next couple of weeks to a month due to lack of time and being out of town trying to get hired by the state police. This project will take a back seat to the bike for now because I'd like to get the bike done before winter. Has anyone else tried custom fiberglassing body parts? Anything I should look out for? I'll try to post up some pictures when I get a little more into the process.

Re: Attempting to fiberglass a hood

I dont get what you mean when you say you wanted to know how fiberglass would work as a cowl.

Re: Attempting to fiberglass a hood

fitment will be an issue since you will have to replicate the exact curve of your front end

Re: Attempting to fiberglass a hood

it can be done, just not that easily. there have been a number of cars with entire fibreglass shell and bodywork.

Put some horns on it... and a pentagram...

The guys on MP3Car.Com (I think that's the name of it) are into fabbing interior stuff with fiberglass, and there's TONS of posts / threads on it. Might be some help there. I've heard it's not impossible, you just have to get used to working with it. I would imagine that if you made a frame that fit good and then covered that with glass then you'd be in good shape... but what in the hell do I know... I'm an acountant.

Re: Attempting to fiberglass a hood

I've been so busy with work and fixing the bike here lately I haven't progressed much, and honestly had forgot about it. I have tomorrow off work so I will get started on it again. Thanks for the nudge I needed.
