Took the Prix to two mechanics. Both states that a timing chain guide may have broken and I may have some bent valves and guides. The GP is a 99 with only 58k miles on it. I still owe about a $1500 on it. I need a new engine, I am going to keep it for a while (at least a year). What's a good price for a remanufactured 3800 series 2 engine. I'm not a engine tech, so I don't know. There are a few good salvage yards in my area, I was thinking about getting one. Any thoughts? I would appreciate any help.

Re: 99 GP GT timing trouble HELP!
Why do they say it "may" have these issues? Before putting a new engine in it, take the timing cover off and see what you have wrong. If you weren't hot-rodding it when it quit, or if it's just noisy and still runs, a new timing chain, gear set and tensioner may fix it.

Re: 99 GP GT timing trouble HELP!
You are right. I'll get to work on the 4th. Thanks for the advice. I'm getting lazy in my old age. But I'm not getting rich. Can't afford a new engine.
