Red face Stupid Question

i have a stupid question. i have problems with my JGC, and i like coming to this forum before i take it to a mechanic, so i don't get "screwed", but i guess i am still lost. i hear terms on here i don't know and i'm not exactly sure what my vehicle is or is not sometimes. how do i get these answers? i have a 94 4x4 JGC laredo. that's all i know, don't know what kind of engine, don't know anything about quadra or select trac. am i hopeless? someone please help me.

Well it is not a 91 Jeep GRAND CHEROKEE, Grand Cherokee did not come out until 93, it is possible for it to be a Jeep Cherokee. Engines for the Grand Cherokee ZJ (93-98 years) are 4.0L 6 cylinder (I6), 5.2L 8 Cylinder (V8) and 5.9L 8 cylinder (V8, 98 moel year only), Cheorkees use a 2.5L 4 Cylinder engine and 4.0 6 Cylinder engine.

Quadra-Trac (NP/NV 249) is an all-time 4 Wheel Drive transfer case - always in 4WD, modes are 4HI -N - 4LO.

Selec-Trac (NP 242) is an 2WD/4WD optional transfer case, modes are 2HI - 4HI Part Time - 4HI Full Time - N - 4LO

Comand-Trac (NP 231) is also a optional 2wd/4wd transfer case, modes 2HI - 4HI - N- 4LO.

Newer Grand Cherokees WJ (99-04) and WK (05-?) also use Quadra-Trac II (NP 247) - which is the same as quadra-trac but it uses a Gerotor Clutch pump, instead of the imfamous VC, Which allows for a true 2WD mode unlike the quadra-trac.

Quadra-Drive (not sure what model #) is unlike any other transfer case, it actually has the ability to transfer all power to 1 wheel - wheel with the most tractions.
