6 bolt TPS swap...

Ok guys heres the situation I've come to just learn. I got a 1g NT TB for my car here. I went to make sure the TPS would go on it and its completely different from a 2g's. Also, my friend just got a BBK 70mm TB and none of the TPS's fit into it either. So I guess my question is, what TPS do I use to make the 1g NT TB work on my 2g and what TPS should my friend use for his BBK in his 2g? Both cars are getting 6 bolts dropped in...

Re: 6 bolt TPS swap...

The NT TB is a direct swap, just like a 1g turbo TB. You have to make sure it is a TB from a NT 2.0 though, IIRC the 1.8s may be different.

With a 2g, you need to swap in the 2g TPS. It's a direct bolt on. It has the 4th pin in the connector, which is for the 2g throttle closed switch. The 1g used a seperate switch for this. If it's completely different you probably have the wrong TPS. COmpatible 1g TBs and 2g TB TPS uses the same connector.

The BBK TBs won't accept any DSM TPS, it is assumed that when you go this route you know how to wire in the TPS that is supposed to work with it, and have some way to adjust for the potentialy different voltage range (dSMlink, AEM, or other standalone, etc).

Re: 6 bolt TPS swap...

I have the 2g TPS off of my 7 bolt... I have a 90 6 bolt though and I didn't get a TPS with it... Well I got a 90 NT TB from my friend that upgraded to the BBK, so I need to get the old TPS that he used with this 90 TB and then we need to find an aftermarket one that will fit his BBK... Is that correct? Then I have to rewire the 90 NT TPS into my 2g wiring harness and he must do the same with an aftermarket one?... I wanna make sure I'm getting all this right. lol

Re: 6 bolt TPS swap...

The 90 TBs are only good for 90 cars. They are worthless to 91-99 owners. 91-99 2.0 TBs are interchangeable.

I believe what you posted about the BBK case is correct. You'll need whatever TPS was meant to work with it (i.e. upgraded TB for a mustang will probably need a mustang TPS, etc). Once he gets that wired in though, he will need some way to set it up so the ECU sees the right voltages at throttle closed and at WOT, as mentioned above.
