In progress: Mystery sporting car.

Ok, guys. Let's play a game. A game of "what is he building?" Assuredly, this is a competition vehicle of some kind. Let's see what's going on here, shall we?

Well, it appears to be some sort of pre-50's vehicle. Maybe you recognize it, perhaps you do not. It is purposely generic. All handles and hinges were shaved, as were some panel lines. It won't be all green, either, I don't think. That color is the color the scallops will be, the main color will be a dark gray that's almost black.

Most of today went into this darling. It's some sort of tube frame. The front axle hasn't been built yet, but the rear has. Boy, that axle is pretty high up! If I didn't know better, I'd think I were up to some sort of nonsense!

Here are the major components. Make of them what you will, but the biggest clue will be in the following picture.

Everything is together and mocked up. The car will ride a good bit higher than it is, the body is just laying on the chassis which is still kind of stuck to the plan. It should be pretty clear now what I'm building, right?

WHAT?!

Re: In progress: Mystery sporting car.

I dont know what it is but I sure like it. I really am impressed how clean and straight the frame is. Ok, this is getting fun, is it a child's pedal car or some kind of soapbox racer? I'm going with the soapbox racer.

Re: In progress: Mystery sporting car.

Must be a child downhill racer, making the thing that it's generic even more of a clue... nice idea, also the big chair in it says a lot!

BTW, the base model, could it be the Citroen TA?

Re: In progress: Mystery sporting car.

The body sure looks like a Citroën Traction Avant. Will it be a front-wheel-driven dragster?

Re: In progress: Mystery sporting car.

OK... I'd say you started with Tamiya's 1:48 Citroen 11 CV ........... and your building a soap box racer...... or maybe a childs pedal car in 1/24......

am I close?

Re: In progress: Mystery sporting car.

Is it a hot-rodded, customised, down-hill X-sport luege(?) (not sure of the spelling but I mean those sort of lie-down bobsleigh things for street racing)....

Or maybe yoiur entry for the phantom category in next years MS comp...?

Whatever it is, great thread and nicely put together.

Re: In progress: Mystery sporting car.

I'd say pedal car.
Or maybe a full custom wheelchair?
I like the project already!

PS: I agree, it's a Citroen TA base.

Re: In progress: Mystery sporting car.

It's fun to read some of the guesses. Swamp buggy is my favorite. But most of you are very close - it's not a pedal car but a gravity racer (a soapbox derby car, but with an implication of a larger budget). The model is a 1:48 11CV (Traction Avant) from Tamiya. All I am using it the body, but I had to start somewhere.

Thanks for the replies!

No motor? Doesn't belong in the motorsports forum then does it?
