Welcome to AF, your description is a little brief, is this under load, at high speed low speed? Try disconnecting the maf when this happens see if there is any change, check your connections at the maf, icm and crank sensor harnesses for corrosion or poor connections.

Thanks you very much maxwedge for the reply I have check all. All the connections are tight, and no corrusion.I drove it till the same problem has happened. I unpluged the MAF and nothing. The car doeest stall at all just bucks and sputters when I push normally on the gas. If I press it to about (dont now for sure automatic)300-700rpms It bucks and stutters some, but I can some times keep moving very very slowly, and as soon as I let off the gas it idles normal.

So it runs the same with or without the maf connected, if so I'd try another one, fuel pressure is good I assume.

Re: Hello All Problem w/91 regal custom no codes PLS HELP

Sounds like I might have the same problem. Described the problem to my mechanic and when he came over he knew right away it was the Throttle position sensor. Haven’t fixed it yet as I’ve yet to purchase the part.

My 91 regal 3.8L ran fine until 2 months ago and then it would sputter and stammer and then wouldn’t start again. If I let it sit for a while it’ll start again but after 2 or 3 minutes it starts to sputter. RPMs go wild and when I press on the gas the amount of pressure on the pedal does not relate to rpm’s rising accordingly. Fuel pump seems to work fine – I hear it when I turn the key in the ignition prior to starting. Fuel filter needs to be replaced – haven’t done so in 5 years but not sure if that would be the culprit. 200,000KM on the engine so far…

Anybody else?

Re: Hello All Problem w/91 regal custom no codes PLS HELP

In case any body is reading this post it turns out that the TPS was not the culprit. I took apart the throttlebody, replaced the TPS and cranked the engine. Still a problem. Then by chance I unplugged the MAF sensor and cranked the engine. BINGO. Engine was running smooth. I replaced the old TPS and put everything back together and kept the MAF sensor unplugged... this was just to make sure the MAF sensor was indeed the problem. and it was.

Seeing that the MAF sensor at my dealership is 300+CDN (used part is roughly 90bucks) does anyone know if these sensors are repairable? What normally goes wrong with these things? AND - how do i know it's the sensor itself and NOT the wiring attached to it? Is there a way to test the sensor itself?

Any help is appreciated - you'd be helping me save big bucks so please reply!! thanks!!

See you took my advice, good, I think you did anyway, parts houses can sell a reman unit, they can be iffy though.

I don't know how to test the sensor nor if they are repairable but FYI
Parts America / Checker Auto's online store shows a new MAF sensor for
your car {2 different ones} from $122--$160. This price is from stores
in Phoenix, AZ.
