Car won't start, new starter/alternator/battery
I have a 2003 Taurus that won't start. I thought it was the starter so I took it out and went and got it checked out, they said it was a bad starter so I bought a new one. Installed the new starter and car still won't start. But I've noticed after I try to start the car the lights on the dashboard flicker along w/a clicking noise coming from the fuse box, to the right of the battery.Should I just change the fuse that is clicking and hopefully that will solve the problem? Or is there something else?? |

Re: Car won't start, new starter/alternator/battery
First, check the connections at the battery. If they are corroded, clean them up with a wire brush. If they are loose, tighten them down. If neither of those work, have the battery checked out. Sounds to me like you have a battery issue. Good luck.

Re: Car won't start, new starter/alternator/battery
Take it out and have a parts store test it for a bad cell which kills the battery. One minute it's good, next minute it won't do zip and the only cure for a bad cell is a new battery. When you install a new battery the comptuer has to re-learn itself, so if it runs rough at first don't worry about it. There's a procedure in the owners manual you should read.

Re: Car won't start, new starter/alternator/battery
Thanx guys,
Turns out it was a bad battery, I took it to get it tested and it couldn't hold a charge. That surprised me because it was only 3 years old, plus it's Motorcraft which is more higher quality. I figured somehow either the battery killed the starter or vice versa b/c the starter was bad too. |
