TCCM - Aftermarket availability?

Anyone out there have a part number or know where a transfer case control module can be located, outside of the dealership? I've tried all the usual local places (Napa, Autozone, Pep Boys) and they all say they don't list the part. I also checked rockauto.com, and gmpartsdirect.com. The gmpartsdirect.com site said the part number in their catalog didn't exist, as did the customer service people I talked with there.

Tried all the local junkyards also, no luck there.

Vehicle is a 99 Bravada. The service AWD light comes on - did a 'rig' to make the problem go away, but figured I should probably fix it properly now. The transfer case motor seems to be OK, that is it moves if power is applied to it.

Give your dealer your vin no and he can figure it out from there.

Are you real sure you need it?
Have you done the proper testing?
What codes no do you have?
What transfer case?
Has the fluid been changed with the proper fluid?

Blazee, you are the search master. I did a search earlier and couldn't find squat. Thanks for the info. Haven't looked at the original yet. Probably would've been wise to do that first.

MT2500 - No codes set, though the service AWD light is on. Took it to Autozone, and they said they didn't see any codes in the computer - maybe he didn't know what he was doing, hard to say, or maybe the scan tool wasn't set right, beats me. I like OBD-1 myself - break out the paper clip and count the light flashes. Fluid was changed per manual (drain, fill, drive a hundred miles, drain, refill) with autotrak-2 fluid (the blue stuff) around 80,000 miles - it's got 105K on it now. Did that the same time I changed tranny fluid, fuel filter and front/rear differential lube.

Transfer case is the AWD case - not the two speed case like the Blazers have. I'd have to crawl back under it and look at the tag on the case to get the part number.

My testing so far has been pulling the control motor - I put power to it for a second, and it moved. I assume thats good. I hear a "click" around the passenger side dashboard area, which I believe is where the TCCM lives. That click happens just as the service AWD light goes on. The wire that leads to the transfer case motor looks good, and I verified it has a good ground with my ohm meter.

Am I on the right track, or way off base here?

YOU NEED TO GET A FULL ENGINE /TRANSMISSION/BODY/TRANSFER CASE CAPABLE SCANNER ON IT.
GET THE CODES AND GO FROM THERE OR POST BACK THE CODE NO.

Also with a 136 AWD the transfer case takes a special fluid that need sserviced ever so many miles.
If not done it will give you fits and may lead to service transfer case light on.
Get them codes and clear codes and recheck.
And if it has not been serviced get the special fluid and service it.
Some will require a flush out and refill when servicing.

Fluid was changed about 25000 miles ago - I'd hope it lasts longer than that.

Went to Pep Boys, and they said they could run "ABS diags" for $69 with a 50/50 chance of finding a problem. I told them I'd be happy to pay it if they found something, but they didn't like that much. I have no problem paying the money if they can find something wrong. I'd just as soon save the money and go to the dealer where they can definitely do it/find something.

I'm guessing that at this point a visit to the dealer is in order. But, would these codes be retrievable via one of the Actron OBD-2 scanners? A friend of mine has one, but he lives about 60 miles away. Don't want to waste a trip if that won't tell me anything.

Might go adjust the points and dwell on my 69 AMC now just so I feel like I can accomplish something with a vehicle...

You will need a scanner that is capable of reading all computer systems.
And reading the ATCM computer/module
A good repair shop or dealer is your best bet.
On the 136 AWD the transfer case is controlled bythe ATCM module.
You will need a scanner that can read and test the auto matic transfer case module. The OBD11 code readers and scanners will not get the job done.
Checking the abs may or may not show anything.
Is the ABS light on?

ABS light has never come on while driving - only comes on when the vehicle is first started, then goes right back off.

Tip on going to the dealer
Ask that only a factory certified gasoline engine/transfer case performance specialist work on your car.
Not all dealerships are concerned with how repairs are dispatched, and not all dealership techs bother to take advantage of the training offered by factory(the vast majority of which is paid training). If the dealer is uncooperative, ask for your money back and call around for a dealer that will accommodate you.

I think I got very lucky here.

I called a dealership this motning and asked if they have anyone who is familiar with the AWD transfer cases and troubleshooting. They said that they could "try", but couldn't guarantee that they could repair it, but would try to diagnose it for a minimum of 2 hours labor. That didn't sound right to me. The dealership that I bought the Bravada at closed down after Oldsmobile vaporized, and apparently the average Chevy dealer doesn't know these things.

I searched on car-part.com (thanks blazee for posting that link a long, long time ago) and found a junkyard about 30 miles away that had the same TCCM that was in my truck. I convinced them to let me try it before I bought it. Left my credit card on the counter, plugged it in, drove away, and no more service AWD light. It clicks on and appears to be working normally. Paid $75 and drove away happy.

Just got home, went down the semi solid farm access road, punched it, and felt it kick into AWD. I now have a smile on my face, and a slightly muddy Bravada. Time to break out the hose and wash bucket.

Even though I didn't follow the proper troubleshooting procedures, I thank you for your assistance MT. Guess I'll need to try to find a dealership that understands these vehicles for the next time something goes wrong. I got lucky this time, but that probably won't happen again for a long time knowing my past experience.

It does sound like you got luckie on the fix.
Glad it all worked out.
It is a shame the dealer does not have anybody trained on them.
Keep your eyes open for a good repair shop or dealer that know what they are doing.
You may need one the next time.
