Question 535i Air Filter

I have been told that the air filter, on my 1990 535i is a "racing type" and requires frequent washing to stop it from clogging up. The question is; what do I wash it in?

Re: 535i Air Filter

Is it an open air element filter (I.E. cone or CAI?) or is it just a K&N/Fram/Whatever drop in filter. Either way, its the same thing, just go to Autozone or O'Reillys or whatever, and tell them you need a filter charger for a reusable filter. Its an oil that you soak it in to get the crap off and keep it lubriated. All the instructions should come with the recharger.

Re: 535i Air Filter

Believe it or not. Recharge kits contaminate sensors on the intake side of the engine. I prefer dry filter element.

Re: 535i Air Filter

Thanks for the info, Scott. I`ll make some enquiries amoungst local dealers and see if there is a standard dry filter element that will fit.
