Lady In the Water?

A new one from M. Night Shyamalan.

"Cleveland Heep, a modest building manager, rescues a mysterious young woman from danger and discovers she is actually a narf--a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the treacherous journey from our world back to hers. Cleveland and his fellow tenants start to realize that they are also characters in this bedtime story. As Cleveland falls deeper and deeper in love with the woman, he works together with the tenants to protect his new fragile friend from the deadly creatures that reside in this fable and are determined to prevent her from returning home."

Sounds, er, interesting.

Re: Lady In the Water?

M. Night failed with The Village. I'm sorry, i give him no more credit as a good director.

HBO baby! Unless someone wants to pay for me, then again, it better not be a waste of time like The Village.

Sure his other movies were somewhat predictable, but as soon as I knew what the movie was about (while watching it) i knew.

Re: Lady In the Water?

His movies are alright, far from predictable IMO. Those twists at the end give you a, "O, so thats why he did that" feeling.

I was a fan of the 6th Sense.
The Village was alright.
Signs was good, except for the whole water/alien thing.
I haven't seen Unbreakable, so poo.

But the plot twists make his movies more fool-proof, it tries to leave the viewer with no questions unanswered.
I mean if I had a plot twist at the end, I would make sure all the previous scenes in the movie absolutely meshed well it.

The only problem with him however, is that his directing style has become predictable, you know that he will introduce some crazy plot twist at the end.
So when your watching, you try to analyze every little thing to see what it means and where its leading.

This movie should be alright, but I do hate those commercials.
Children whispering is so damn innoying.

Re: Lady In the Water?

not predicatable!?! so you're one of those slow people...

The Village plotline had been done so many times...i'm pretty sure it was a Twilight Zone. The Sixth Sense, sure if you weren't looking. Signs didn't have one...it just kinda was. Then Unbreakable was the most predictable but Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson made it worth watching.

His movies have nothing to them that others dont. I couldn't even tell you who directed The Ring, 2, The Grudge, etc but M. Night has the same style. The only reason everyone knows him is he's apparently "weird" and critics and other slow people didn't know Bruce was DEAD!!!

Re: Lady In the Water?

Trailers make me not want to see it.. with the little girl whispering it and everything.

Actually it pisses me off, I hate the whole commercial with her whispering on it.

Re: Lady In the Water?

im with damien here, his movies are totally predictable, reading that first post up there tells you everything. here's how this crappy m. night shamalammdingdong movie will end. You know that annoying ass little kid whispering on the trailers...well its gonna turn out that you watch this movie and when you think its over and this cleveland guy saves the day or whatever, BAM! it fades in to a little girl reading a book, she closes it, looks at the camera and says..."You paid 10 bucks for this crap" and scene....

Re: Lady In the Water?

Alright,

so from the begining, you guys knew the village, in The Village was in a nature preserve.

You knew from the beginning that water was caustic to the aliens in Signs.

Tell me, what gave it away? What scene or clue gave it away?

Re: Lady In the Water?

Seen the plot of the Village before like I said. After a little awhile, no prob. Although i did alright start guessing after seeing previews.

Signs, that wasn't a twist. but all the stupid water glasses around, first time i saw it i whispered that i bet something with the glasses will kill the aliens.

im an englsih major. they have wjole classes on foreshadowing not too mention, it just plain movie common sense.

Re: Lady In the Water?

im not saying i knew the exact plot twists of his movies, but come on...he's got a pattern with his movies. You know there'll be something at the end to twist the plot line, the movie will be slow and uneventful, and just be a big disapointment. and i'm sticking to what i said about the whispering girl...she'll have something to do with it near the end.

A lot of pple were expecting a horror/thriller from Villiage, and when it didn't deliver, he got shit for it. Watch Villiage again, and look for the bigger picture he's trying to show you. The reason he made that film was for a pov on society and politics. He just added is interesting and creepy touch to it. Honestly... to say he's lost credit as a good director is pretty damn ignorant.

As for trailers, lately, they ALL suck balls. Remember that Nick Cage movie, "National Treasure"? those previews looked so gay, but the movie was really good. Fuck trailers, they're just there to let you know the movie's comin' out soon. just watch the damn thing b4 you knock it down. I honestly don't think there's a girl whispering throughout the whole damn movie, seriously.
