looking for help with out having to order an owners manual. with the 4WD what should illuminate on the dash when its in neutral. I think my idiot husband has been driving it in H2 for months which would explain some of the reason for it not starting now. Tick, tick tick, no juice, jumping it now with camry. 4WD is left and up to H2, down to H4, up and right for N and up to L2. When its in N the green thing lights up and there are some red letters above it. Please help settle this bet, or help me say I TOLD YOU SO..

Re: 4WD problem on 96 4runner
Driving in H2 would have absolutely nothing to do with it not starting now. H2 is what you are supposed to have it in unless you are offroad or in a low traction condition.

Lille H2 is for normal driving on your 4runner 4x4. This is NOT 4wheel Drive, it's 2 wheel drive, your front end is Not Engaged for 4wheel drive in H2.
H4 is your high gear 4 wheel drive, you use this for driving on snowy or slippery roads and is 4 wheel drive. Can be used for higher speeds in 4wheel drive, over 0 mph and up to say 45 mph. Light should be on to indicate 4wheel drive engaged. L4 is your Low Gear 4wheel drive, you use this for slow driving in 4wheel drive like over steep hills or large rocks or whatever, only use this when you have to drive slow and need 4wheel drive for the most severe driving conditions and keep your speed Low. For Off Road Use Usually. Light should be on indicating 4wheel drive engaged. Like I said H2 is for normal everday driving and as already stated it would have nothing to do with your 4runner not starting. Could it be your battery or altenator ? A worn belt that is keeping your battery from recharging could also be the Problem. Good Luck OzzyO
