This further supports my claim

So i'm sitting in my office browsing AF cause my paperwork is done and i have nothing better to do, when i see a bunch of people hurrying outside, so i followed the crowd and came out to see a red 2005 Buick LeSabre hanging off our wall in the customer parking. This 80 year old lady was driving and she put the car into reverse, went over the parking block, kept accelerating over the wall and finally stopped after the back of her car made the three foot drop off the concrete wall(pictures to come soon). Yes the old woman was fine. She eventually was helped out and she said "i forgot there was a wall there." This is among the many idiocies i see from old drivers every day working in a Buick shop.

Which proves yet again that old people should be tested quarterly, and given more tests than younger people. And most of them should not be able to drive...it's horrible..

pictures soon

Re: This further supports my claim

i cannot agree with you more. two of my very good friends were killed in a motorcycle crash about a year ago. it was about 10 at night and they were out for a ride on their anniversary. they were both wearing helmets and obeying all laws. some 90 year old got done playing at the casino and was driving home. for some insane reason she was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit them head on. sent them flying and they both died on impact.

i think that if elderly people can't pass the test they shouldn't be able to drive for like 6 months. they can take it again and if they don't pass same thing. i don't care how harsh that sounds. they need to learn. granted, young drivers can be almost as bad, but their eyesight and reflexes are better than old peoples'

I personnally think it should be required to retest everyone regardless of age every two years. Young or old, there are people that refuse to obey the law, or have the capability to drive correctly.

This is true, but the younger idiots that just refuse to obey the law would still most likely pass because they still know what the laws are and that they must obey them in the presence of those who hold the power to revoke their license. Once they pass the test, they'll do the same stupid stuff on the road.

Elderly people on the other hand, either have forgotten some of the laws of the roadways or don't even realize they're breaking them. Sad but true. Before my grandma stopped driving, I saw her do some questionable things behind the wheel which made me worry what she does when I'm not around

Re: This further supports my claim

yeah it's amusing, haha the old lady drove off the concrete wall. what if someone had been parked there? perhaps even sitting in a car parked there? i totally agree with testing. every 5 years people should be tested. at age 60, every year or two. after 75, every 6 months.

how many people are going to have to die because some elderly person thought they could drive fine when they obviously can't? i was almost killed THREE times yesterday by ignorant older drivers. twice, there were people doing between 55-60 mph down the wrong side of the road head-on at me. then someone drifts into my lane, i beep at them to say "hey pay attention" and they swerve fully into my lane, brake check me repeatedly, continue to swerve at me while braking to get next to me. scary as hell. then they follow me for over 20 minutes across several cities. *with how many turns i was making, it was not a coincidence and same with the way they shadowed me thru traffice*

i'd rather not be killed before i'm 20 because some old person can't admit they're a poor driver and their body is deterioting. why won't lawmakers do anything about this? and with all the baby-boomers, things are only going to get worse.

Because most of the lawmakers and politicians are baby boomers themselves, they won't pass anything that hinders their ability to drive. I see this crap all of the time. Living in new england, I get the winter tourists, mostly skiers, snowmobilers, etc., a few of which can't drive. Then comes late spring into summer. The snowbirds come up from south driving a 50foot rv, towing a car behind it, and they can't drive for crap. That's scary. Then we get the foliage in the fall, they stop in the middle of the road (literally) to look at the different colored leaves.

Re: This further supports my claim

I see alot of people every time I renew my license struggling to pass the eye test. It's scary. Last time (3 years ago) there was someone trying to memorize what other people were saying. Pretty bad when it comes down to it. If you can't see, don't drive. What's so hard about understanding that?

Re: This further supports my claim

it's partly a problem with our society. in other societies, the elderly are brought back to live with their children when they get older. in our society, our elderly are just left by themselves or shipped off to homes. they need to get groceries, run errands and sometimes, they do'nt have anyone to help them out but themselves. so i see their position, but i think something needs to be done about this cuz it's not safe for them or others for them to be out on the road.

2 17 year olds got killed about 2 seconds before I drove by. I didn't know what had happened, but now I feel like shit about it. They were changing a tire for someone.

Agreed that there should be testing, also agreed that legislature likely won't do it because they'll be subjected to it.
