93 corolla misfire

I am not a car buff by any means.... yesterday, it was poring rain, i drove to work fine, i will admit, i am always heavy on the gas.. racing the rpms through 1,2,3, gear.. no problems anyway.. i leave work.. 8 hours later.. and i get this sputtering when i floor it.. now.. usually the car picks up and goes.. but the acceleration stops, and it almost jerks the car back and forth.. .. i had my friend drive it and he said.. one of or more than one of my cylinders is most likley misfiring..

i took my ignition wires off the sparkplugs today.. and third plug from the distributor was moist.. it smelled of water and oil mixed.. so i sprayed all of the inside with 99% alcohol that i get from work so it evaporates fast and kills any water..

still have the same problem.. didn’t do anything.. i regularly use fuel cleaner and FI cleaner..

i guess i am going to try replacing the cables from the distributor to the sparkplugs and changing the distributor cap.. the spark plugs are a few months old.. so i doubt they are the issue..

i may add.. when i fly the rpms way up.. without the car being in gear, it usually does not bogg down, it has a few times.. but not much..

a month or so ago i had a new catalytic converter installed.. i have yet to ever replace the fuel filter.. so im going to eventually get around to doing that.. i just dont know where it is and how to go about doing it.. so any help with that would be great to..

anyone with some incite, i would greatly appreciate it.. because well.. as u know, being young, usually means that the cash flow is limited.. so i dont have fancy equipment or anything like that.. so simple things that are cheep and most likely the problem would be nice..

if worst comes to worst.. and i have to drop a lot of money.. so be it..

Welcome to the AF!

This is not a fuel problem (most likely). Use Toyota wires, and replace the distributor cap and rotor. That is probably as far as you have to go. Check back.
