Sunfire 98 problem after replacing water pump

I had my water pump change last week on my 1998 Sunfire GT 2.4.
Since then, the car make a loud 'lawnmower' noise when I stop at every corner. That noise stop with acceleration.

The mechanic said it could be the hydraulic binder (near timing chain)??
Any idea what that is or if it could be something else?

Welcome to AF!!

Take the car back to the mechanic. If it didn't make this noise before you had the water pump replaced then it shouldn't do it now. Either something is installed incorrectly or something is hitting. Have the mechanic fix what he broke.

Re: Sunfire 98 problem after replacing water pump

Thanks GTP Dad for your reply.

I agree with you, it's exactly what I said to my mechanic.
But I did some research and find out that something need to be release on the timing chain tensioner (hydraulic) to rebuild the pressure on the timing chain. The noise is coming from the timing chain knocking on the motor. The exact same thing append to someone else who post on this forum back in 2003.
I just give the information to my mechanic, he will check it.

Thanks again!

*By the way, I'm a french speaking person so if you find a lot of error in my post, now you know why...
