Low Oil Level
Ok, so I have this problem with my car. My low oil level light comes on sometimes when I start the car. But the thing is, the gauge on the dash that shows your oil level is around the same area it usually is, and it isnt going past the red line. Also, if I drive around for a little bit, and turn off the car and then turn it back on, the light wont come on. Does anyone know why its doing this?

Re: Low Oil Level
could be malfunctioning sender unit
could be wires chafed at sender, among other things visual inspection plus testing is how to find out also dash warnign lights odnt always come back on a bit after shutting off the car really random most times, but if the car has sat for a really long while then all the warning lamps should light with ignition on but engine off if not then bad senders or bad bulbs if your oil level is fine and it runs good and doesnt use oil then i wouldnt worry much about it, and would instead worry more about tires and brakes and such more important things good luck

Re: Low Oil Level
I'm with the Goose - Use the dipstic to check the crankcase oil level. It's been foolproof for over 100 years. If the dipstick shows correct level, the next time you change you oil, plan on removing the level sensor and cleaning it. It's fairly easy:

Re: Low Oil Level
Yea, I checked the dipstick and I needed to add some oil. Only thing is, I dont think my car is leaking oil. I park it in my driveway and I never see any oil on my driveway.

Re: Low Oil Level
If the oil level is decreasing, and there are no apparent leaks, there's only one place it can be going - Out the exhaust.
BTW - Did topping off the oil to satisfy the dipstick also satisfy the switch? |
