Fuel Milage Update

Some of you here may remember me and some of you may not. For those of you who do not, I am an owner of a 1991 Metro 4DHB and had a fuel milage issue for the first several months. I finally narrowed the problem down to a plugged return line, from the throttle body, to the fuel tank. That made a helluva difference. I was getting 60 psi fuel pressure. Once I fixed the plugged return line, I logged onto Ebay and purchased a fuel pressure regulator and installed it. Well, to this day, I'm still getting about 41 miles to the gallon, which is a lot better than the 21 MPG I was getting at the start. I have found that fuel pressure is the number one factor, when it comes to fuel milage. In a 3 cylinder Metro, it should be 16-23 PSI. If you can't obtain that pressure, after making sure your lines are all free, then I would suggest an inline fuel pressure regulator, so you can manually adjust the fuel pressure, going into your throttle body. Sure, the throttle body is equipped with one, but it is hard telling how acurate it is and if it is functioning properly.

Good luck to all and feel free to ask questions.

Leon

Re: Fuel Milage Update

Leon;
Awesome information! I haven't had this problem but am now ready for it should it appear. What type of pressure regulator did you buy and how can you tell what pressure it's set to or is it adjustable?
