Engine swap in progress (kinda)

First off, I have a few questions, mostly technical BS but I want this to go as smooth as possible and this is the first time doing this. First off, should my Throttle body be oily on the inside where the air would flow through? It's both oily and dirty. Second, would it also be a good idea to replace all of my old vacuum hoses with silicon hoses or are those just for show? I'm trying to get this engine dropped by the weekend (just as a time-frame) and when it cools back off I'm planning on going back out there and disconnecting stuff under the car, like the exaust system and the shifter linkage. along with trying to get the CV's pulled. I guess now would be a killer time to get a short-throw shifter.

the throttle body generally looks like that after 100,000+ miles. it is because the valve cover has a vent that is hooked to the intake which is hooked up to the throttle body. now if it seems like you have excessive oil, you want want to look on the inside of your intake. i have heard of someone burning so much oil it started sucking back in though the intake stick around the scene long enough and you'll hear all kinds of crazy stuff!

you could always put a breather filter on the valve cover and cap the intake off. then you shouldn't see oil on the TB anymore. worst case, you'll have to replace the breather filter after 100,000 mi of driving.

IMO, the colored hoses do nothing but add color to your bay. they aren't better or worse. i personally replaced mine with another set of black ones.

it's just mildly covered in oil and dirt. if I remove the TPS would it be okay to dunk it in a parts wash to clean it? I may have the TB polished but cost is an issue and I'm not sure how much it will cost to have it polished.
