ABS and Break light, manual says tow immeaditly :(

99 olds alero was on way home and suddenly the ABS and the break light came on at the same time. I thought this was wierd because the break light means my parking break is on and the abs means.... well the abs is going. Anyways I was only a few blocks from home so I went home. When I got into the garage I checked my break fluid to see if it was low. Its wasnt. Earlier in the day i needed to add power sterring fluid just for a side note. And yes I added it to the right hole. Anyways I looked in the manual and it says to have it serviced immeaditly. Which means for me when I wake up the next day. But I would like to know wth is going on with my car. I just had a new ball baring put in 2 or 3 weeks ago in the front left wheel. And have replaced the caliper on that side a few days before that and the rotors on both front wheels. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Zack

my "low trac", and abs lights came on just the other day. i have no idea why, but i am thinking it might be the best thing to get it serviced. that is what i am going to do.

Normally when you get ABS and trac problems the best thing to do is get it scanned with an ABS capable scanner to see what error codes are present so corrective action can be taken and without guessing.

Most ABS and trac problems are a wheel sensor in the hub/bearing assembly or the wiring to it. There is one on each wheel but the front ones are the ones that go bad. On a few occasions it could be the EBCM module or the ABS motor pack.

BTW - Also, make sure the connections to the battery pos and neg are good with no corrosion and tight.

Nope! Short of removing the respective lamps at the Intrument Panel (IP) there is no fuse you can remove to get the lights to extinguish.

I see no problems. I've driven with a bad hub/bearing with ABS and Trac lights for about 3 weeks until the parts arrived and I had time to work on it. With the ABS fault light on that means the ABS part of the braking system is out however conventional braking should be fine. However, exercise caution. Good luck!
