the vette is a bit quicker. it has 5 less hp but weighs several hundred pounds less. not to mention is is like 20k cheaper, and looks just as good.

heh guess what happend when they put both cars on the dyno? the Z06 made more power then the viper. so it has more power, lighter weight, more refined interior and can run toe to toe with a ford GT. Z06 wins.

even though the Viper coupe looks soo much more bad ass.

Vipers used to be extremely popular and cutting edge. Now they're kinda showing their age. Are there any Vipers in the LeMans this year? I used to be the biggest viper fan *looks over at viper phone* but now I'm more into the corvette because it's lighter and has a big engine.

the new Z06 is obviously the better car. Viper hasnt been updated for years...but on the other hand the Z06 just got a full make-over including a new motor. makes me wonder what the next step is for cars of the like, 1000hp from the factory?

The Z06's engine is still smaller than the Viper's (7.0 for the Vette vs. 8.1 for the Viper), but it is indeed more powerful. I don't know if there are any Vipers in LeMans, but I doubt the Viper has dropped off the performance radar. It's not very far behind the Z06 at all, and the Competition Coupe could probably still beat it.

I was always under the impression that part of its "wow" factor is that it is amazingly simple.

Unless you are absolutely in love with the styling there isn't much of a reason to buy a Viper SRT10 right now. I believe the only numerical figure in which the Viper is superior in is torque.

Top Gear has tested both the Viper SRT10 and the C6 Z06 on their track. The Viper lapped in 1:28.5, a little slower then an M3 CSL, a little quicker then a Evo VIII. The Vette lapped in 1:22.4, right up near the Ferrari 360 CS and the Porsche 996 GT3, faster then the Lambo Murcialago. C&D found a similar result. I'm sorry, but if you are buying a car with performance in mind, you would be a fool to buy a Viper right now.

If numbers and lap times were all you cared about then fair call, but there is more to a car, and driving it, than how fast it go around a track and how much hp it has.
And Im afraid only a fool would think a lap of the top gear test track was objective.

as i stated earlier, don't trust the manufacturer's rating. the viper is rated at 5 more hp then the vette, but they you put both on the Mustang Dyno, the viper puts down 447whp while the Z06 puts down 453whp. so its actually the other way around. the vette is actually making around 10 more crank hp then the viper does, and weights 1-200 lbs less.

the only area where the viper wins in is in looks and torque. but the engine only revs to about 6000 while the Z06 revs to almost 7000
