Service and Maintenance on 99 trooper

What other maintenance or service on a 99 Isuzu Trooper should occur besides replacing the water pump when the timing belt is replaced? My truck has almost 180,000 miles on it and is a 4WD. The timing belt and pulley was last replaced around 100,000 miles and a tune-up was also done at that time
as well. Thank You!

I wouldn't touch anything that isn't broke! Keep up on your normal PM stuff. I personally wouldn't touch the T-belt and related accessories until after 200Kmi, or unless something acts up (waterpump, tensioner, etc)

i agree with Joel. Wait till 200k and then do the belt and water pump again. The only thing I might switch out again are the plugs, clean the EGR and trottle body. Other then that, watch the oil and enjoy!

98 Isuzu Trooper, 3.5l, 89k miles, Maintenance issues

I've never a problem except the occasional check engine light which is usually the result of not screwing the gas cap on tight enough. The only repairs I’ve ever done is to change the oil & air filter. I’m considering getting the timing belt changed as I plan to keep it as long as I can.

What’s the Isuzu’s history on timing belts? Am I messing with a good thing by doing this maintenance? If I do replace the belt should I also replace the water pump? What else should I do?

Thanks in advance!!!

Yes, replace the waterpump at the same time as the belt - ALWAYS.

The waterpump is behind the timing belt, and you don't want to have to do things twice in short time.

When you do choose to do it, since you're wanting to keep it longterm, replace the timing belt tensioner, idler pulley, crankshaft & camshaft seals, as well as the waterpump while you're there.

My last waterpump failed with only 90k miles on it, so that's about the mileage I'm gonna stick with for replacing the next pump - but I do a lot of heavy mountain driving, and this truck has towed over 4K# in the past, so it's been worked.

On a normal every day light-duty Isuzu, I wouldn't worry about the belt or the pump until each replacement has at least 100k miles. Your waterpump *should* give you warning when it's had it's day, mine starting sounding pretty clattery ON the day it croaked. There really was no advance warning.
