hydro boost

I have a 72 Chevelle with a power brake booster, but I don't have enough vacuum for it to run correct. I don't want to install an electric vacume pump as I heard they are noisy. Would like to install the hydro boost system on my 72 Chevelle, but very expensive. I spent enough on the chrome booster and master cylinder. Would the hydraulic booster by Cardone part # 527248 seen on the partsamerica.com site work? If it does, what if anything extra would have to be done to make it fit? I can get one for $107.00 This is much less than other systems that I have seen.

Re: hydro boost

Hey Mike,

What specific problems are you experiencing? I'm experiencing an occasional stalling issue when braking hard and was considering down-sizing the booster. (I learned that bigger isn't better when you have a non-stock cam)
I installed a used big honkin' Buick GS 455 booster that doesn't owe me anything that I'd like to replace with something better looking and more functional. I can't answer your question but am interested in what issue you are having. Tom

Re: hydro boost

I'll steer you away from the hydroboost unit. They tap into the power steering box, the fluid is what makes the thing work. They were used on full size GM wagons mainly, some of which were supplied with diesels, so many a gas powered wagon came with the hydroboost.

They are also a bit noisier than standard brake boosters, they take up a lot of underhood room too. You're better off trying to see how your car behaves with the cam, it might be ok as is. Take Tom's advice or ask around at any decent speed shop.

Bob
