Re: looking for a new job

Well, I just got a job with Coke as a merchandiser. They stock the the shelves in stores. get paid by the day, mileage, and overtime (although it's weak). MAin thing is, I've had days that were only 5hrs long and i still get paid for the whole day.

Re: looking for a new job

I had some kind of job from the time I was 16... I worked retail mostly. Sucks, but it gives you some cash.

There has to be SOMETHING that can hire you now until you are 18 and have a lil more variety.

Re: looking for a new job

Why not head to the local drugstore (like CVS or Walgreen's) or the local WalMart? WalMart is always hiring.

I started working when I was 15. I was able to get a work permit through city hall early because my birthday was within 6 months or something. Anyway, look into getting a permit. I guess the laws about working age vary by state, but here in Illinois you can definitely work at 16. And like gouldie said, smaller pizza shops will let you slide even without a permit. I worked next door to this one shop in Tallahassee and there was one kid who was 14!

Also check with your local gov't to see if there are any jobs available for people under 18. here, they have a whole "Summer Youth Employment Program" to link up local kids with jobs. My friend's little brother is 15 doing light gardening type work for Northwestern University making $8.50 /hr. He says its not even hard work... they ride around in an air conditioned van most of the day

Re: looking for a new job

sure, you can work at 17. but it doesnt mean the job has to hire you. mianly cause you have to be 18 to operate a lot of stuff

Re: looking for a new job

i just applied to be a pizza hut delivery driver yesterday. you need to have been driving at least one year to apply there, have a valid drivers license *duh*, list any accidents or moving violations in the last 3 years, stuff like that. i don't think there was an 18+ requirement, at least here at this pizza hut in WI. i checked, and with tips here where i live they make on average $13-$20 an hour. good luck with it

Re: looking for a new job

So what is the base pay as a pizza delivery driver? I always wondered cuz in Tallahassee where I went to school, about 90% of the pizza eating population is college students (aka poor) so tips are few and far between but maybe delivering such a large volume makes up for it. Somebody has to drop a decent tip here and there.

But I assume in areas with a more diverse population (age wise) tips would be considerably better
