Exclamation need help

I am thinking about buying a 89 CRX HF. Its got a D15B6. The car has sat outside and not driven in about 6 months. I found a lot of water in the oil and it smoked very badly. It was ran hot. Could someone give me advice about this engine. Is it worth my time to try to rebuild. Can I switch from a 8 valve to a 16.I just dont see the point of rebuilding a 60 hp motor. PLEASE HELP need some advice Thank

P.S. I am only paying 200 for the car

Re: need help

you can switch from a 8 valve to a 16 valve but MUST switch the pistons. It all depends what you want your rex to do. if you want mileage stay with the 8 valve b6. if you are looking for hp numbers i wouldn't even bother going through all the work to put a 16 valve head on to only get a b2 motor or even a mini me. not worth it to me. it all depends what you want out of your car.

Re: need help

What are you wanting to get out of this car?

You can buy a JDM motor and drop it in. It would be cheaper and easier then buying a rebuild kit and going that route.

http://www.nippon-motors.com/honda.htm $375 for jdm motor d15b

let's take a look at bambam's 5 step's to happiness:

1. buy an EF civic/crx.
2. take out the motor.
3. save some money.
4. put in a B.
5. happy driving!

looks to me like you can be done with step 1 and 2 by the end of the week. That's 40% there.

Re: need help

Believe me youll definitley want to swap out that 8 valve B6 and you wont regret swapping it over rebuilding it. Why spend money rebuilding a 60hp econo-slush? Follow bambams 5 steps to glory and get yourself a B. You definetily wont regret that...especially in your 89 HF featherweight car.
