Striping Enamel Paints
What is the best and safest thing to use to strip Enamel Paint from Pastic parts. I bought a kit very cheaply and a few small parts were already started.
I looks like enamel paints and being the UK most probably Humbrol brand. Thanks in advance |

Re: Striping Enamel Paints
Can you get Simple Green in the UK?
![]() It's my latest favorite safe stripper, for acrylics, enamels, and automotive laquers. Failing that, CSC type cleaner is excellent for enamels. The enamel on my Z3 was thick and six years old when I stripped it in CSC- came clean in a day of soaking. Then of course there's isopropyl, but I understand it's hard to get in the UK.... So, what's the kit?

Re: Striping Enamel Paints
I was gonna ask something along this line too steve. I have a 959 painted with tamiya silver then sealed with a halfords laquer. I have tried the oven cleaners and the heavy degreasers as suggesed but they wont remove the halfords laquer, which will then allow me to remove the tamiya paint with something less potent. Maybe the halfords laquer has more of a enamel type property?
I know that nitromorse is one of the stronger paintstrippers but Im not sure if it would waste the plastic too. Dont wanna risk it to be honest M1CRO. |

Re: Striping Enamel Paints
You can either use a product called "Modelstrip" or alternatively you can use "Mr.Muscle oven cleaner" make sure you use gloves with the oven cleaner and do it outside, PHEW! it stinks to high heaven. Put the parts in a strong plastic bag and spray them with the oven cleaner, seal the bag up and leave it for a couple of hours, scrub them with an old toothbrush under COLD water and the paint should come straight off, if there are any bits left with paint on repeat the process until they are clean, dry and paint as normal. Sorted!

Re: Striping Enamel Paints
Steve, simple green is my favorite now, too (although its HUGELY expensive here
) Takes off enamels OK. 250GTO painted with Humbrol is now bare plastic again ![]() I'm pretty sure I saw it advertised in UK. I need to work out how much dilution it will take and still strip to make it cheaper for me to use.

Re: Striping Enamel Paints
brake fluid will strip anything enamels, laquers, and acrylics, how ever i have noticed that the the brake down of the paint will happen much faster if you spray a coat of laquer paint on it then put it in brake fluid, i think this happens because the laquer has hot chemicals, and then the brake fluid will raise the heat even more, making it much faster to strip

Isopropyl Alcohol
Having done a bit of research now I have some. I contacted the manufacturer And being a Trade customer I could supply stock this and supply in the UK. As it's a Hazardous Product I can only supply within the UK Anyone interested ? |
