Unhappy Grand Am Not Starting

I have a 99 Grand Am GT with a reoccuring problem with the security light coming on. I do not have any remote start connected. It started a few years ago, but over the last 6 months that Security Light has stayed on and the car started EVERY time. All of a sudden the light went off, and now the car is stalling and I have to wait 12 minutes to start again.

Can someone please help me find a solution? Thanks.

Re: Grand Am Not Starting

That sounds like a Passlock problem. There are plenty of posts here regarding Passlock, and it is a common point of failure on these Grand Ams. You may try removing the ignition switch, cleaning contacts, and re-installing. That has helped in some cases.

Yep, Passlock. Not sure if it's just the G-am line or not but there seems to be an abnormally high number of G-ams with this problem. Do a search on here and decide to either fix it right or bypass it.
