Question Jeep CJ7 help

My uncle is moving out of state and wanted to know if i wanted this old Jeep CJ7 that sat out back his house. He claims that it ran when he parked it there around 3 years ago but says that it needs a new computer to run. I was wondering if there is any way of wiring around the computer to at least see if it will roll over. Ive seen on some other sites that it is possible by splicing some wires together at the distributor but im not sure where to start. Im not sure on year but it has a 4 speed transmition with a carborator v6.

Re: Jeep CJ7 help

First of all, welcome to AF. No need to start 5 threads, one will do.

You'll get a better amount of help if you describe the vehicle better. What year is it? What engine? Any modifications you know of?

To my knowledge, there wasn't a computer with the 80's CJs until they got fuel injection. Are you sure it's a computer under there?

Re: Jeep CJ7 help

Jeep didn't put a v/6 engine in cj/7's and the v/6 didn't use a computer. Need better information. Dale [email protected]

Re: Jeep CJ7 help

Take Dale's advice and find out the details on the jeep. To be safe ... tell your uncle you want it. Most likely somebody else in the area has been eyeing up that jeep for themselves. I'd be more concerned with the condition of the body and frame if you're planning on fixing it up. CJ's are great looking jeeps. If your's is a CJ7 and not a CJ5 ... even better. It'll have a longer wheelbase and a nicer ride. I've driven YJ's , and have a cherokee and Grand Wagoneer. They all drive like a jeep. Get it! You'll learn what the fuss is all about.

Re: Jeep CJ7 help

hey, if you did get it but decided you dont want it then how much will you take for it and where do you live. I have been looking for one to use for school research. I am a wildlife science major and I wanted one that I could off-road when I needed it. I am a college student so I dont have that much money so I wanted to find one that I could buy cheap that still has a good working trans, engine, and four wheel drive. So if you are interested in getting rid of it just let me know, that is if you dont live too far. I live in Mississippi. Thanks. Frankie
