87 Spits and sputters
I have an 87 Toyota P/U 4X4 with the 22R engine and 5 speed. When its cold it starts hard and spits and sputters, coughs and you get the idea, until it warms up and you shut it off. After 3 or 4 minutes you start it again and it runs as smooth as a kitten purrs. I have blocked off the choke but that didnt help, removed a "filter" from the diaphram but that didnt help. Was going to replace carg but cant afford gold and same with choke. New choke doesnt come with diaphrams. Does anyone have a clue as to whats wrong and how to fix it? Thanks

Re: 87 Spits and sputters
Maybe it has something to do with the timing. The timing is supposed to advance when it warms up, right? Maybe the distributor is sticking in the advanced position even when it's cold. Just an idea. Good luck.
