Question stock internal//engine management capabilities, ????

hey everyone. just have a few questions about the strength of a 2nd gen mx-6 ls. i was planning on buying one for strictly racing. i know they have a stock 9.2:1 comp ratio which i think isn't high enough to be considered dangerous as far as running a few lbs of boost. here are my concerns however:

are the internals (pistons rods etc. etc.) strong enough to take 8-11psi without detination?
are these internals cast or forged?
will i have to upgrade my fuel system (injectors, pump etc.)?
has anyone had any situations occur after turboing their 2.5 that was unexpected?

i really am into this idea and i would really appreciate the info/ thanks -exl

Re: stock internal//engine management capabilities, ????

You will need to do a lot more research. You can not turbo the 2.5 with out upgrading a lot of things. the entire fuel system will have to be upgraded, the ecu will need to be reprogrammed, or removed in lue of a stand alone. The stock internals ar enot the best for boost, but it can handle very light loads with any problems, I allways like to play things safe, I say do not go more than 6-7 psi, on stock internals. now rememmber, even 6-7 psi you have to completly build the fuel and ignition systems, plus the ecu. I would not recomend trying to build a turbo car for road racing anyways. I have done this, and you get stuck in ITE classes, running against some really fast cars. to be competitive be preparred to spend thousands of dollars on the engine. you would be better of sticking to a stock class, and go from there. it will be way nire competitive, and a whole lot cheaper, if racing can be considered cheap. More power to you.

I love racing, but unless you have a really big wallet, stay in the competitive classes.

Re: stock internal//engine management capabilities, ????

I've heard of guys running up to 13lbs of boost for short periods of time on the stock internals.

Wouldn't suggest doing so though.

i would say you could run 9psi safely but you would want to upgrade you fuel pump and injectors run msd andprolly change your clutch cause more than likely your gonna syart slippin with boost ive been told i can run 7psi with no problems and im at 10:1
