Window hard to crank up

99 SE coupe w/ manual windows. Drivers side window cranks down easily but is hard to crank back up. No noises or stripping, it just takes a lot of effort. I reviewed the posts on door panel removal and will be attempting to take a look later today.

Any ideas on what it may be?

THANKS!

Re: Window hard to crank up

Once you gain access grease the track with some lithium grease. This will help everything move more freely. Should eliminate the problem.

Re: Window hard to crank up

Well, the problem is that the rear lifter is broken (This also solved my mysterious rattle in the door) . I wonder if I can buy just the little broken plastic piece, or if I need the entire regulator. On-line searches seem to find only power regulators, not manual. Hummm.... I wonder If I should try and upgrade to power...???

BTW- I went out and bought the crank removal tool but was un-successful in using it. I finally used a small hook-like tool to grab the spring and pull it out (yes it did fly across the driveway, but I was able to find it)

Re: Window hard to crank up

Try a wrecking yard. You should be able to get the entire assembly for just a few dollars. If you try to find a new one it will cost you major bucks. You could upgrade to power, but you will need some additional parts such as door panels from a car with power windows to put the switches in and you will probably need a wiring harness for the windows if you want to operate them from the drivers side. The wrecking yard will be your friend if you want to do this. Search car-part.com for yards in your area.

Re: Window hard to crank up

FYI, The new regulator is around $180 for the dealer. The used parts average $70 -$80 at the yards.

Re: Window hard to crank up

That's what I thought. You can save a bundle going for a used one. If you get a used one make sure to lube it well before installing the window.
