ABS Brakes--Light On Dash Remaining Lit!!

Hello Folks,

I have a 97 Lumina 3.1, ABS light will check on startup--then go off, after driving probably 3-5 miles the ABS light comes on and stays on the entire time.

When turned off then restarted on next trip same sequence of events.

When light is off, ABS works ok,when light is on no ABS, which is ok with me. If I removed the fuse for ABS (5 AMPS) would this keep the light from coming on? Or do you think that a "CHECK ENGINE" light would come on?

Thanks,
XTECH

Check the condition of your wheel speed sensors, make sure one's not damaged or all covered in brake dust or something, that's the most common cause of ABS faults....not sure about the fuse idea.

I know here you can't pass safety inspection with the ABS warning light on...

Re: ABS Brakes--Light On Dash Remaining Lit!!

In the underhood electrical center, there is a relay labeled 'ABS'. This is the main power for the system. If the contact resistance goes up (worn contacts), the voltage detected at the ABS module will drop - just enough to set a low voltage code, and disable the ABS.

Check the codes first, but it sounds like a bad relay.

Re: ABS Brakes--Light On Dash Remaining Lit!!

my problem is similar, after having brakes done all the way around to pass inspection, i noticed that when applying brakes i would get that abs clicking under dash, and pumping of the pedal, just before completing my stop. when conditions are dry the abs light does not come on, but when i need the system the light comes on and stays on until i start another start up sequence that clears the code. when scanned it says short in rt. front hub. i have heard of debris causung this problem, also heard that you must replace the entire hub to change the sensor true or false?

even a broken connector can cause the short. But haven't heard of needing to replace the hub, remove yes.
