Re: engine swap

You CAN, but you wouldn't want to. Don't bother.

Re: engine swap

why wouldn't want to do it?
I have all the parts, and i mean from front to rear, i.e. wire harness, interior 2001 with harnesses, rear vehicle harness, and every other part 2001 , the only thing left from 97 is the body, I'm not a mechanic , but was doing it by the book. I have some pictures of how far i got. the only problem i had was the mounts didnt match and the steering column was different on lenght wich i have the 2001 already.

Re: engine swap

i hope that you are wanting to swap in an sr20, but the 2001 isnt the one you should get. even though it is the most tamed version of the sr20, it doesnt respond that most to mods as the ones in 1997 did. personally i know since i do own a 2001 sentra with an sr20de in it already. yes its a nice engine, but when it comes down to changing more than the i/h/e for the car, you have to get specific cams, valves, valves springs, etc. its easier to just grab one from a model with isnt a roller-cam. but since your at it, just grab a sr20ve. i have yet to swap for it, due to 'rights over the car' with my parents.

Re: engine swap

yeah are you swapping the 2.0L or the 1.6L? the 1.8L that replaced the 1.6L in 2000 and newer sentras probably wont fit in a 1.6L engine bay without some work.
swap in a 97-99 engine will remain smog legal in all states, plus its better for tuning than the 00-01 engine (at least as far as the 2.0L goes). but if you just want an engine, the roller cam SR20 has a slightly broader torque curve, which equals a little more power during most street driving. but it doesnt really have more power at the peak though.

Re: engine swap

you may find it easier to do a jdm swap. like an sr16det. i found one on the net. just look around. less work if you have an 1.6l like me.
if you do an sr20de. you have to cahnge the whole front end.
good luck on what ever you do.

Please quit handing out false information, the 2.0 and 1.6 SR share the same block and will mount in the same spots, all you would need would be your axles, radiator, maybe fans, the ecu, and motor mounts. Saying that a smaller displacement version of the same block would fit easier is like modding that auto gxe of yours, completely retarded. To the poster, if you have the engine, tranny, ecu and all, the swap may only consist of picking up some custom mounts and axles, unless you can use the newer axles as well, but i doubt it since the b15 chassis is wider......Hit up jgy customs for your mounts and ask them about the axle situation, if youre looking for some more bang out of that 2.0 you could always pick up an sr20VE head

Re: engine swap

the original 97 sentra is a gxe 1.6, I'm trying to get the '01 1.8 on it, about the mounts, the only ones that didn't match was the left side and the rear one that was kind of low, and made the engine tilt backward. To fix the left side, i just had to cut the brackcets for the old one and set the new one flat on the chasis, but the rear one , i have no idea hot to get that one. Another thing i noticed was the gear/limkage assembly, is hard to fit in cuz the 2001 body it has a dent on the body where the steering column connect to it and is hard to fit in. Maybe if i make the dent or cut part of the panel , would work, any thoughts on that?

Re: engine swap

watch out for the lack of aftermarket for the 1.8...........if youre just swapping to a newer motor and dont plan on modding then go right ahead, as long as you arent compromising the body you could dent the panels, make sure your tires dont rub when you turn hard over
