Wax?

So..i was washing my car and i remembered something that i read before, not really sure if it was this forum but i just sort of wanna bring it up..

who waxes their cars?
who polishes?

has anyone heard that wax is bad for paint? if so..do you guys not wax it? is it true?
anyone know?

i heard it was bad to wax cars, better to polish..cuz wax seals up the paint..and paint needs to breathe.

i just polish mine.. although wax would make it look friggin nicer.

Re: Wax?

waxing is not bad for paint! I can't believe anyone would ever tell you that. I usually wax mine atleast once a month. Wax will help protect it from bird droppings, tree sap, rock chips, etc. If you have never gotten it buffed I would suggest getting it buffed, you will be surprised how well it turns out! good luck with your wax!

Re: Wax?

I think they were talking about if it has been freshly painted. You can polish new paint but you cant wax it until it cures completely. That takes anywhere from a month to 6 months depending on the paint and how sure you want to be that it is comepletely cured. If it is factory paint or has been on your car as long as youve owned it, wax it all you want.

Re: Wax?

l have waxed a lot of cars.. but those cars that l have waxed, l only saw them once so l am not experienced on damaging the paint.. BUT, l saw here, on my car, if your car has fiberglass parts and if you wax the car everyweek, YES you will damage your paint slowly.. but on metal parts, l doubt wax would damage your paint.. l still suggest not to wax the car everyweek.. just do it once a month.. that is PLENTY and SAFE.

Re: Wax?

a premium quality wax will not harm the paint in any way whether its on fiberglass, plastic or metal.
as for not waxing new paint - it's an idiot clause - because the paint mfgr. knows that there are some really cheap assed people out there and they will use junk (silicone based) instead of getting the good stuff because its cheaper.
A premium quality carnauba wax is best and you wont have to wax as often because it holds up .
I have waxed new paint as early as 3 days after painting - because every paint job that i have either done or had done was color sanded until it was absolutely flat then buffed out to a brilliant shine then waxed. Never had a problem - never harmed the paint

Not waxing is just asking for trouble - your going to oxidize the hell out of the clear, & the bird droppings and chemical fallout from dirty air are going to etch rings into the paint that cant be buffed out

The best to use are the meguires , mother's , & granitize. ( I use only granitize fine finish)
Avoid anything in an orange bottle or with turtle in the name and you'll be fine

Re: Wax?

Car shows I use polish first then top with 3 coats of carnuba wax.

Whoever told you wax hurts the paitn is full of shit.. Unless you wax in the sun..

Waxing and polishing is bad for the first 4 weeks of repainting the car. The paint indeed needs to breathe then but thats the only time it is bad for the paint.

Re: Wax?

I use Meguiars polish, wax, clear coat cleaner, and swirl remover.

Takes forever, but works GREAT!
Wash car.
Dry, and apply the clear coat cleaner.
Remove cleaner with terry cloth.
Apply polish.
Remove polish with terry cloth.
Apply wax.
Remove wax with microfiber towel.

That is probably a once a year job. Keep up with the polish and wax throughout the rest of the year.
I have also found that using the Meguiars quick detail spray instead of water on the application pad helps the polish/wax last longer and spread better.

Re: Wax?

Washed with Meguiars Gold Class wash.
Polished with Meguiars step 2 polish, removed with a terry cloth.
Waxed with Meguiars step 3 carnauba wax, removed with microfiber cloth.
