Re: i gutted the cat :)

You should have less back pressure which may increase mileage a little bit. Performance should increase as well but you may experience a decrease due to the increase in performance. Kind of a catch 22!

Re: i gutted the cat :)

If you gut your catalytic converter, how are you going to pass your state's emission test, assuming that your state has on? I would not recommend doing that at all, your engine is designed to have that on and doing what you're thinking about is not real kosher.

Re: i gutted the cat :)

Oops, I reread your post and see that you already gutted the CAT. Your "cat" is to help keep the air we breath "cleaner". The engine normally exhaust CO, carbon monoxide a poisonous gas, the Cat adds one oxygen molecule to make it CO2 which is not poisionous but can kill you if you don't have enough O2 in the ari. So congratulations, you are now polluting the air with CO and probably haven't helped your gas mileage one bit. Nice going jack. You need to learn more about your car before you start modifying it like that. If you have to reinstall your CAT before you can pass a safety or emissions test, that will cost you a bundle.

Re: i gutted the cat :)

If the cat was plugged up to start with, then there will be an increase in power...however, I suggest that you leave the OEM muffler on. A hi-performance muffler will not allow enough backpressure for the engine to run right... As it is, you will have a decrease in MPG (assuming your cat wasn't plugged, but if it was then you won't get the most MPG that your engine is rated to get).

Like my car, for example. The cat was gutted and a hi performace muffler was added by the previous owner--Bad Idea. The engine gets terrible fuel economy (21mpg vs the 29-30 it used to get in the last car) and has a hard time accelerating in low gears due to a lack of sufficient backpressure. However, if you install a hi-flow cat with a hi-flow muffler, you should be fine.

Your engine was designed with these parts intact. GM didn't spend millions of dollars in development just to have these parts removed (or gutted). Granted, it does sound better and should have better top-end performance but as a daily driver it is kinda pointless...

Re: i gutted the cat :)

The hell with gutting the cat...just take it out and put a pipe in its place...much easier.

dhspring...go buy a freakin PT Cruiser so that we all can laugh at you even more. Being able to spin the tires is worth every ounce of CO I put into the air. Luckily, I'm getting rid of my 88 so I dont have to come to this forum and listen to idiot enviromentalist like you. Or morons that make thier 88 a "GT" like that HOMO above.

Thanks to all those that have helped me, but the 88 isn't working for me anymore.

F*^# that retard above with the GT 88, what a freakin joke, that kid should be strung up.

Re: i gutted the cat :)

More character? Yea ok. If I get aids its going to be from your mom. Putting a GT emblem on you 88 shows a lot. Shows just how retarded you really are.
