Shifter removal

Hey everyone;
This is my first time here so I hope that this question hasn't been asked before. I am replacing the automatic shifter in my 04 Monte carlo with a B&M universal, and I can't get the shifter knob off without destroying it. It is loose but wont budge, is there any way, or am I out of luck? Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Shifter removal

Monteman98 had the right idea. All you need to do to get the shifter off is to take a flat head screwdriver and pry out that staple shaped thing. The hard part is getting it back in, because the prongs push out. Shouldn't take you too long though.
Later, Joe.
