Re: Thermastat location
the thermostat is usually inside the top of the engine block where the top radiator hose connects to the engine inside a little housing that shoult have two bolts, and you will need the new gasket and sealer as well.

Re: Thermastat location
I wouldnt use below a 180, if you put too cold the engine wont run right and the emissions might go thru the roof
I think the stock thermostat is 195, so a 180 isnt that much lower Brian AwPhuch |

Re: Thermastat location
What engine do you have ? If you install a thermostat that has a lower temperature rating your fuel mileage will go down considerably .

Re: Thermastat location
I have a 3.9 litre V6. Although it will hurt my gas mileage or emmissions I will have a cooler running engine with better combustion and more power. At least this is what I am told. The thermastat on't keep the engine running at that temperature, it will increase the flow of coolant at that temperature. And there aren't Emissions checks in Ohio anymore. So I'm golden.
My friend has a Z28 that runs hot as crap like 220or210 so he installed a 160 stat and his engine runs between 190and200 now. Hot engines, although great for gas mileage, not great for full combustion (power). |

Re: Thermastat location
I am considering the Jet StageII performance chip as the next upgrade. I said it was for cars with high flow exhausts and inakes and cooler thermastats. As well as upgrading to premium gas settings. Does anyone think I can get more than 25 horses to the street if I have the following upgrades.
Airaid CIA Dynomax Cat-back exhaust 160 thermastat currently using premium (93 grade) fuel |
