1999 Inrepid Tech problem.

In my 99 Intrepid, every time I step on the brakes, the trunk release engages and opens it up. As well, when I hit the trunk unlock button inside the car, the brake lights come on. I had it looked at and they didnt find anything. I was told he had seen it before, but couldn't remember what the problem had been. He said it was something stupid. Both fuse boxes were check as well as all of the wiring in the trunk. Can anybody help me with this?

Re: 1999 Inrepid Tech problem.

Well its pretty clear the wiring going to the trunk release is shorting against the brake light wiring.
You hit the brakes, it pops the truck, and vise-versa.

All you have to do is strip out the interior of the car, and follow those wires.
Not fun, but its the only way you are going to find the problem.
(of course, start in the obvious, accessable places, then start pulling out bits of trim).

Alright, that would be great. For now I just disconnected the wires from the solenoid, so the trunk will stay shut while I'm driving. But being able to actually fix it would be much appreciated.

I started that already, and found nothing. Looked through the whole trunk and rear of the car as well as both fuse boxes. But I may just have to keep looking and looking. The thing about that is that I asked a friend of a friend about the problem (he works in a car audio installation garage)and he said he had seen the problem before and it was "some stupid little thing" but couldn't remember exactly what it was. That puts me off a little from looking through the entire vehicle myself with no idea what to look for.

Re: 1999 Inrepid Tech problem.

I hate to say, this one isn't documented. The only thing I could find remotely related was a grounding issue in the trunk, next to the cyclops brake light, which in one instants, caused the radio to cut out when you hit the brakes. It might be worth checking....but unfortunately, not real sure on that one.

Well i really appreciate the help and research. I will look at that. If that isn't the issue, well, I'll be in for a lot of work and a lot more research.

Thanks again for the help.
