Timing belt change

1991 4cyl Protege SOHC
Due for a timing belt, do I have the water pump changed while they have everything open? Engine Seals?

Asking as on my sons 91 camary that was the way to go along with the engine seals

Re: Timing belt change

I have changed timing belts on several vehicles. I changed the water pump on an Isuzu pickup when I changed the belt because the old water pump was leaking. The new pump needed changing again before the timing belt was due for a change, it was leaking. On the other vehicles I didn't change the water pumps and never had one leak or fail. If seals aren't leaking and they aren't being removed as part of the job I don't change them. No one can tell you when your old parts may fail. On the other hand they cannot be sure the replacement parts will last as long as the original parts. My 2 cents.

Re: Timing belt change

If I were changing the water pump due to leak, I'd change the belt as well. Not the other way around.
