I know of 1 neon that has over 400,000 miles on it and another with over 350,000 miles...so I'd say real reliable with proper maintenance. The biggest thing with the 1st gens, are the headgasket problems. The early models had a leaky HG, but was resolved by the 99 models. Most of the 95-98 models were replaced with a MLS HG which solved the problems. The neon also has a 100,000 mile timing belt and is an interference engine, so the belt should be replaced along with the water pump, and tensioner pulley at the same time for maintenance.

Re: neon reliability?

very imo but the more you play with your car as far as mods the less reliable it gets.
