wipers return home in upright position when turned off

have a 1997 grand am and when i turn the wipers oof the retuen home in up right position not tucked uner hood, any ideas whats wrong has been driving me nuts for a while noe?????

did it just start doing this out of the blue??
if not, the arm that runs the wiper blades, on the spline on the back of the wiper motor, it's in the wrong position. when you are looking at the top of it, mine's about at the 1 oclock position. My husband had it off and it took a bit of experimenting but found the right postion for it after a while. I had my wipers doing that too..... drove me nuts.
