98 Awd Trans Shift Cable Replacement

I have a 98 safari AWD. Had to replace shift cable. Got the ac delco replacement from a GMC dealer. Gave me a bracket for the transmission end. Can't figure out how it fits. Holes don't line up. Only place they might place it hitting the crossmember. Went back to the dealer with old and new setups. He ran the numbers again and and says they are for my van. He even ran the VIN # and the stamped part numbers and says they are the right parts. Has anyone had to change the cable and install a new bracket with it??? The new bracket also has what seems to be a guide hook covered with a piece of vinyl... that's what's hitting the crossmember... besides that... the old bracket fits into the channel for the tranny pan bolts..
into the lip of the edge of the pan... this bracket would have to have spacers under it to fit anywhere on the the edge of the pan or it will hit the down turned edge... anyone??? Thanx in advance, Chris-cah.

Re: 98 Awd Trans Shift Cable Replacement

Just wanted to let you guys know I figured it out... they are the right parts... they should supply a pic with the new bracket and two extra bolts that are needed. they are the same size bolts as the tranny pan bolts... the new bracket bolts on in line with the same corner t-pan bolt as the old, but above it... when you take the corner pan bolt out to remove the old bracket, stick a nail or a p-head up into the hole and you'll see it continues through into another hole in the edge of the casting above it... same with the other hole that the new bracket lines up with... the new bracket rests on top of the casting and the bolts are installed from above... little tough on the knuckles but doable... the holes need to be cleaned out real good too since their full of crap and haven't been used before... I ended up stripping one and had to run one bolt up through the tranny pan hole below and put a nut on top to secure the bracket... I'll post a pick of the old and new braket asap... Chris-cah.
