Engine swap

i was wondering if it is a big job to swap in a carburated 305 into a 2.8 car.
And what parts that i would have to change, motor mounts, driveshaft?

Re: Engine swap

Yeah, doing a motor swap is usually a pretty big job and it'll probably be pretty expensive. A lot of people that start them do not finish or they have lots of bugs to work out after they get the engine in.

Re: Engine swap

engine, tranny, rear end most likely for limited slip which you'll want, wiring, gauges, motor mounts, cross member, and some other little things. The drive shaft will however be usable.

Re: Engine swap

Why are you choosing the 305? stuck because of price? Or because it's easier to swap than an LT/LS1?

Re: Engine swap

Yeah, if you are going through all the work of an engine swap might as well do it right. The 305 is pretty gutless in my opinion. If you're really planning on doing it you might as well go with a 350, you could still go carburated if that is the way you want to go.

all of this is true... except rear end is not a necessity (just making that clear) and you don't need to change the crossmember (assuming you use the same model transmission).

don't forget radiator and cooling system if you are doing a mild performance application. factory radiator will not be enough.

Re: Engine swap

im was planning on the 305 because i just graduated from high school and cash is tight. 305 are everywere and pretty cheap. Im not looking for a high horse power motor. Anything has more power then a 2.8, and whats the difference in gas milage between 305 and 350

But if you are planning on doing an engine swap wouldn't you want the parts car to have these parts?
