Tornado

I was thinking about throwing one of these into my car. For the moment, i'm just looking for a cheap way to improve my gas mileage, nothing to insane. If you don't know, a tornados about a 60-70 dollar peice that goes in your air intake i think. a friend of mine suggested it, he had used on in his 3rd gen trans am and said it worked great. I was talking to a mechanic though, and he said he sees guys having problems with them all the time. my question is, does anyone know if it can actually be a problem? i mean its just a metal peice that goes in your air intake..not sure how it could go wrong. ill probably do it anyway, but id like to know before i go ahead and spend the money. thanks

Re: Tornado

very doubtful that it will work (or at least in any substantial way)

Re: Tornado

It's a gimmick, flat out. I don't care how many "experts" they have that says it works.

On the problem aspect, I think because of the alltered air flow, it messes up MAF readings.

Re: Tornado

It doesnt do anything. If it did, dont you think car makers would include them in their cars?

Re: Tornado

My thought is that if it was a legit part that increased gas mileage to any measurable degree - 1 of 2 things would happen.
1) Everyone would be talking about it (they are not) and CNN would be raving about it (they are not)
2) the big oil companies would have injunctions against the company that makes them and would tie it up in court litigation for many years to come to keep it off the market , so that they can continue to gouge us at the pumps.

Thats my opinion

Very legitimate points, I totally agree with both of them.

Re: Tornado

+1 for the "its crap" part.

Formula-This would be a good question for the FAQ board. This and those electric turbos

One of the regular members about 6 months back (or could have been longer) posted a link to a non biased magazine that tested all the gimicky power/MPG adders. You know the gas tank magnet, the electric turbo's, the different intake tubing devices and it showed that all cost the test horsepower and miles per gallon.. I would love to find that thread.

Re: Tornado

Yeah, read that article, very interesting. I just love the fact that most of those gas saving products actually reduce power and fuel efficiency.

Re: Tornado

I put one in my wifes '02 impala 3.8l when they first came out and she claimed that it helped, but by how much I don't know. I cannot tell if the hp and tq dropped though.
