OD light flashes, engine runs rough

Hi everyone, wifes 2001 F-150 4X4, 4.6 L, automatic transmission, 113,000 miles is flashing the OD light when you first start it up. Not every time, but more so recently. Did same last fall, had local Ford dealer check it out and service the trans. Was good all winter but now when OD light is flashing on and off, truck runs rough, no power and will sometimes stall. Read somethng about a sensor causing a pressure increase which loads the engine. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance.

Re: OD light flashes, engine runs rough

Well the OD light has nothing to do with an engine issue, you would get a "CEL" for engine stuff.

Given that you have both trans (OD light) and engine (performance) issues, the cause may well be as simple as a corroded connection on the power or ground wires to the PCM or something similar.

Have the codes read out, that will give you a better idea.

Re: OD light flashes, engine runs rough

The rough running and the od light blinking is probably coincidence. However the stalling could be from the convertor clutch staying locked up, or locking up intermittently when it shouldnt. Thats about the only trans problem i can think of that can cause the stalling, and it could cause rough running at low rpm, and make the light blink. Its kinda like coming to a stop with a manual trans without mashing the clutch. As mentioned above, running the codes on it should tell you the problem.
