Talking DSM going bye bye...HONDA TIME!

Well i've finally had it with my Eclipse breaking.

after much deliberation i've decided to buy a 2006 Civic SI. finances have been approved. I'm on the 8-12 week waiting list. I know i know i'm going to the dark side.

I test drove it and fell in love. Its just as quick as my GS-T, and its going to have awsome reliability and safety. It also has enough tuner potential for me. I'm not looking for a 12 sec car. Some bolt ons and good driving and the SI's are doing low 14's. thats fine for me.

I need something that can get me to work, fit people in the back seet, fit grocerys in the trunk, and not break down daily. My eclipse can't do any of this things.

I agree with you. My eclipse is fast and i love it but when it comes to reliability its bad. Honda's SI looks nice and atleast you know you can get to where you want to go. Also MPG is very very good on that car for the horsepower it has. Good luck, and I think you made a good choice.

I don't understand why DSM's have such a bad reliability factor. Mine's been great, but I understand. I know you want a back seat but go drive an S2000, you won't be wanting a back seat

s2000 > SI

Sorry to hear that man. I hope that your car makes it to a good new home, I am sad to hear one of the seixest DSM's I've ever seen has to change owners.

Re: DSM going bye bye...HONDA TIME!

What makes DSMs unreliable is the driver. If you take car of your car, dont beat the shit out of it, and keep everything maintained it wouldnt break down. Easy as that.

I daily drive my car. It has a GT42r on it, 1600cc injectors, a fuel cell in the back, and doesnt have a speedometer anymore.

I havent had the car leave me stranded anywhere. Starts everyday, uses the 3 gallons of race gas it takes to get me to work and back (1 mile away) 35psi is a daily occurance. If you own a DSM you should know that you must take care of it or your car is going to go to shit. Same goes with any other car, but DSMs need more attention.

Good luck with your Honda.

3 gallons to drive a mile. Sounds like a waste of money.

I've seen plenty of reliable cars become unreliable due to the driver beating the shit out of it. I've also seen some very unreliable cars become reliable cars by the driver not driving it like he stole it every single day of its life.

Re: DSM going bye bye...HONDA TIME!

Good choice on the new SI. Those things look really nice, and probably drive great too. You won't regret it.

I would have personally have gone with the new 4G Eclipse Spyder; I know a lot of people don't like it: it's underpowered and heavy, some say it's fugly, blah blah, but it's started to grow on me and I would love to own one. I'd buy it, and mod the shit outta it, and make it look like the Shpyder! But that's just me.

As for DSMs as reliable, I'm not sure I completely agree on the "it's all about the driver" stance, even though that does, needless to say, have a significant contribution to the deterioration of the vehicle, and experiences vary . Sometimes, cars just break down on you no matter how much care you take: e.g., my spyder. I believe that Mitsu build quality is inferior to most Hondas; everything from interior to parts, though they might be getting better. I base this on a dozen Hondas that I have personally owned, versus a dozen Mitsus that I have also owned; new and old. Then, there are cars within my extended family and circle of friends. There is a very quantifiable difference that I have noticed over the years between Hondas and Mitsus. But, I have always owned Mitsubishis, not for their reliability or build quality, but because I love these cars, and nothing excites me more than driving one, being seen in one, modding one. I think there's nothing else like a DSM or a 3000GT or a VR-4 GSX Galant or an Evo, etc. Mitsu has made some of the most amazing, ball-busting machines at a time when the competition, in their nascency, were timid and afraid to evoke high maintenence projects like AWD and forced induction.

Would I reccomend a turbo DSM to a first time driver who's still in high school and earns minimum wage at a fast-food joint? No. Would I buy one if I were in the same situation as previously described? Hell yes. For the philosophers in the house, figure out the paradox.

Good luck with the new Civic SI, it's definately a decent car.

Are we going to be seeing a post in the classifieds section soon? lol I know it would get plenty of attention.
