Red face Yet another starting puzzle

Hello everyone,

I am new here, and found the forum while searching for help on a starting problem (I know computers in and out, but cars are a mystery to me).

So to get to the point; when I turn the key on the ignition on my 1987 240DL, everything has power, the lights turn on, I get the familiar "ding ding" of the seatbelt reminder, etc. but the engine won't even try to turn. The only times this would happen would be if the car was not on either parking or neutral shift, so that is the first thing I checked. It still won't do a thing.

All the fuses look ok (there's one on a cable that goes to the + terminal of the battery that looks fine too), spark plug cables are good and snug, battery is also good (tried jump starting it anyways with same results), but other than towing it to a mechanic, I am lost. I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice on this problem.

Thanks in advance

Auto or manual. if it's a auto could be the PnP switch, you can try the "cleaning" and run the shifter through the range about 25-30 times and try it again. if not replace the switch.
