It seems that the city and the local police actually have the temerity to accuse a librarian for upholding the law and require a warrant to access library files.
They accuse her of putting her library above police department. When what she did was protect her library patrons against an illegal police inquiry. Patrons that also happen to be citizens under the full protection of the law and constitution. Furthermore, as she points out, by forcing he police to conduct a proper search she just made their case stronger. The first thing any defense attorney would do is check the legality of the police case and would ask the judge to throw out the case at the first sign of an illegal search. So I have to say bravo to the librarian for not giving in to police pressure and protecting her fellow citizens by upholding the law and constitution. http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?...Y3dnFlZUVFeXkz Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. Re: So upholding the 4th Amendment to the constitution is not OK anymore
Yeah because when the police want something you give it to them, its all part of the patriot act, shut up and do what your told or the terroists win oh and because it was to protect the children so your rights and the rights of all the people in the community don't matter.
It is nice to see someone educated and smart enough to tell the police to do things the proper way, it is not as if she was holding information that would put someone's life in jeapordy. |

Good for her. While I understand the position of the police, they still need to get a court order in order to have access to private information....if they don't, then all we're looking at is a police state.
