Angry E28 Dying for no reason

I have an '88 535is and I'll be driving down the road and it will die for no reason. After I stop and try to start it, nothing happens, it just turns over. If I sit for a few minutes, it will start back up and either die right after or drive for a bit and die again. It just started doing this a few days ago. I was thinking fuel filter or one of the fuel pumps. Could someone please let me know something.

Thanks.

Re: E28 Dying for no reason

I had the same symptoms on my 87 528e. Finally, found that the pressure regulator had a small hole in the diaphram and that it was sucking gas into the intake manifold and flooding the engine while at idle. Ran great at speed, but would stall when slowing to an idle.

Pull the vacuum hose off the top of the intake manifold that runs to the fuel pressure regulator...if you find gas, replace the regulator.
