AC rebuild kit?

I was talking to one of the guys at work and we got on the topic of AC. Since it was over 100 today.
And he said that I could buy a AC rebuid kit instead of replacing the AC pump.
Is this true? Because I can't just lay out 400 dollars for a new one and I kinda need one when I go to Florida in a week.

It leaks oil, badly. That's the problem I have with it now.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: AC rebuild kit?

Unless you have the proper tools , I doubt you'll ever be able to rebuild it with any success.
For instance, one of the first things your going to need is an AC Clutch Puller/installation tool.

Re: AC rebuild kit?

The guy that I work with, his brother has a shop and he said he would get me in there so we could work on it.
I just like to know if it would work to just rebuild it or replace it.

You need to check it out and find out if just the front seal leaking or other stuff.
I do not replace many front seals anymore. Labor time and sometimes they do not hold and many times the compressers have other problems.
A good quality rebuilt compresser is usually the best way out.
You can go to the AC-kits link and get a lot of info on it.
Good luck MT.
