mass airflow sensor (maf). either the sensor went bunk, there's crud in the connector for it, or one of the wires melted for it somewhere... it's got something to do with the maf most likely...

I agree. First thing i would check is the MAF.
When did the problem first arise? z31 z32?

also could be the AAC valve that contains the FICD solenoid. solenoid goes bunk sometimes and when the solenoid doesn't work the motor won't rev correctly. just an idea...
